Residential elevators are regulated by both the Middletown Building Department as well as the NJ Dept of Community Affairs (DCA). The DCA's Elevator Safety unit reviews building plans containing elevators and coordinates with local construction officials for permitting. When the home is in the floodzone, certain standards apply, including all critical elevator components be installed above the base flood elevation (BFE) and materials and parts be floodproofed.
