Police Chief R. Craig Weber Biography

Chief R. Craig Weber graduated from the Monmouth County Police Academy’s 39th Basic Recruit Class in July of 1990. He previously served with the Borough of Atlantic Highlands Police Department and the NJ Division of Parks & Forestry, State Park Police, before joining the Middletown Township Police Department on December 1, 1993.

His initial assignment was serving as a Patrolman in the Patrol Division. Later he was transferred to the Traffic Safety Bureau in January of 1998 where he continued to serve as a Patrolman until his promotion to the rank of Sergeant in 2000.

Upon being promoted to Sergeant, he was reassigned to the Patrol Division as a Supervisor on several Patrol Squads. In 2005, Sergeant Weber was transferred to the Detective Bureau, where he served as a Detective Sergeant until his promotion to Lieutenant in 2006.

Lieutenant Weber was then reassigned to the Patrol Division again, and served as a Patrol Squad Shift Commander, before being appointed as the Commander of the Traffic Safety Bureau later that same year.

In August of 2014, he was appointed Chief of the Police Department. In September of 2010, he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief of Police and assigned to the Technical Services Division, where he is responsible for the management and supervision of the Detective Bureau, Records and Service Bureau, Community Relations Bureau, Communications, and Computer Operations.

Chief Weber has earned a Master of Administrative Science Degree with Graduate Certificates in Law and Public Safety Administration and Human Resources, Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University, a Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia, a Master of Arts Degree in Public Policy and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Monmouth University, and an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Brookdale Community College. He is a member of the National Political Science Honor Society and a graduate of the Marine Academy of Science and Technology High School.

In addition, he has attended many professional development courses and received specialized training in areas such as Traffic Engineering, Traffic Crash Reconstruction, Hostage/Crisis Negotiation, Basic and Advanced Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), SWAT Supervision, Command & Tactics, Advanced Criminal Investigation, and is a graduate of the 229th Session of the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

During his career Chief Weber has received many awards and commendations, to include being recognized as “Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year” and “Police Supervisor of the Year.”

Chief Weber is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the FBI National Academy Associates New Jersey Chapter, the Honor Legion of the Police Departments of the State of New Jersey, and is a lifelong Middletown resident.
