Back to School Safety Guidelines
- Be alert when driving and walking (eliminate distractions such as texting)
- Follow posted speed limits and slow down in school zones.
- Obey all posted parking regulations.
- Do not upload/load children across the street from the school.
- Stop and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and when crossing guard raises sign.
- Never pass a stopped school bus with its lights flashing.

Middletown is Hiring School Crossing Guards
The Middletown Township Police Department is now hiring Crossing Guards. Shifts take place before and after school with a minimum of 3.5 hours per day.

The Middletown Township Police Traffic Bureau consists of a Lieutenant (Officer-in-Charge), a Sergeant and 5 Patrolmen. The primary responsibility of the Traffic Safety Bureau is the investigation of Serious and fatal motor vehicle crashes. They are also responsible to help reduce motor vehicle crashes and injuries.
Crossing Guards
The Traffic Safety Bureau is responsible for overseeing the Crossing Guards, who are positioned throughout the Township of Middletown during the school year. Crossing Guard Positions exist within the Traffic Safety Bureau at all times. It is also the Bureau's responsibility to oversee the Parking Enforcement Officer.
Enforcing Traffic Laws
The Traffic Safety Bureau will assist the motoring public whenever possible. They enforce all New Jersey State Traffic Laws as well as the Traffic Laws in the Township of Middletown.
Car Seat Safety
Traffic Safety Officers will instruct residents on the proper method of installing child car seats into their vehicles. Call the Traffic Safety Bureau at 732-615-2045 for more information. Car seat installations are conducted the second and fourth Wednesday of every month, no appointment is needed.
