Middletown Recycling Center- 2022 Construction

As of 7/13/22, the contractor has mobilized to the site and begun the demolition work necessary for the proposed improvements. New concrete curbs and sidewalks have been poured. New electrical conduit is being installed for the Styrofoam™ machine, security cameras, and building.

As of 7/22/22, the concrete work that constitutes the curb, pad, and sidewalk has been completed. This pad will serve as the area for the Styrofoam™, metals, and electronic recycling. The electrical conduit is also complete. Materials have been brought in to raise the grade of the site which will allow for a more leveled surface area and improved drainage. The safety bollards are also in the process of being installed, along with the entry gates and surrounding fencing.

As of 7/28/22, new concrete pads for dumpsters have been poured. Safety railings and new gates are being installed. The area for the new salt dome structure has been cleared. The contractor continues to grade the site in preparation for asphalt paving.

Late-stage improvements continue at the Middletown Recycling Center on Kanes Lane! As of 8/5/22, all concrete work is complete as dumpster pads and curbs have been poured. Safety railings, fencing, and new gates have been installed and site drainage and electrical improvements were finished this week. The entire site will be regraded and paved within the next 10 days.

Renovations began at the end of June, including increasing access and efficiency to the recycling drop-off bins, improving traffic circulation, allowing room for the expansion of recyclable commodities in the future, and ensuring ADA compliance to both the Middletown Recycling Center and Administrative Building. As of 8/12/22, the project was delayed slightly due to several unforeseen, yet necessary, utility upgrades.

The majority of improvements as of 8/18/22 at the Middletown Recycling Center (52 Kanes Lane) included the installation of a retaining wall near the mulch/compost area to prevent runoff and to create a cleaner, safer environment for workers and residents. The entire Recycling Center was graded and asphalt has been added. Several of the drop-off bins have been moved back to the Recycling Center in anticipation of the re-opening.

As of 8/26/22, the entrance to the Middletown Recycling Center (52 Kanes Lane) has been widened to improve traffic flow and new gates have been added to increase security. Signage has also been added throughout the Recycling Center to improve organization and efficiency in anticipation of the re-opening.
