Shredded Paper

Shredded paper is not permitted in your blue recycling cart, at the Middletown Recycling Center, nor at any of our Satellite Recycling Centers. Residential shredded paper must be placed in the garbage.

Residents are encouraged to participate in paper shredding events. Shredded paper from the commercial shredding system gets recycled, as it is free of contamination and processed differently.

Paper shredding events are also scheduled by Monmouth County at different municipalities each year.

The 2025 dates are list on this page. All shredding events will be held from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, or until trucks are full.

County residents may shred up to 100 pounds, which is equivalent to four office paper boxes or four large-sized trash bags. All papers will be shredded on location in the mobile trucks and the event will end once the mobile trucks are full or its scheduled end time. Large binder clips must be removed from documents; staples and paper clips can remain.

This program is hosted by the Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners and the participating municipalities: Allenhurst, Atlantic Highlands, Bradley Beach, Brielle, Colts Neck, Fair Haven, Freehold Twp., Hazlet, Long Branch, Marlboro, Matawan, Middletown, Millstone, Neptune Twp., Oceanport, and Shrewsbury Boro.

Information about the paper shredding events and recycling can be found on the recycling section of the County’s website, www.visitmonmouth.com, or call 732-683-8686, ext. 8967.
