Mayor Perry speaking

Mayor Tony Perry welcomes everyone and announces that the Lincroft Senior Citizens Housing Corporation will be donating $5,000 to the charity.

In honor of May being Mental Health Awareness Month, Middletown High School South senior Alex Taddeo, along with the help of her peers, hosted the third annual "Be the Difference" suicide awareness and prevention walk on Sunday.

The walk began at the Middletown Arts Center where many volunteers and walkers gathered for this important cause. Former South student Piper Wyman, who spearheaded this effort in our community, returned from college to help kick off the event to energize the participants, promote positivity, and remind everyone that even in their darkest moments they are never alone. This sentiment was echoed by Erika Mendez, a spokeswoman from the New Jersey chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

Mayor Tony Perry also addressed the crowd, alongside Deputy Mayor Rick Hibell and Committeeman Ryan Clarke, before the walkers made their way to the parking lot at Town Hall where people could stop at various tables for snacks, review informational pamphlets, and take a chance at winning one of the several amazing baskets they were raffling off.

Hundreds of community members supported the event by walking, volunteering, and displaying signs with positive and encouraging messages along the route. "Be the Difference" raised over $15,000 for the New Jersey chapter of AFSP, making this year's event the most financially successful one yet!

Within the last two weeks, Middletown Landmarks Commissioner Roseann Eteson hosted cemetery cleanups at the Eastmond Burial Ground (York Avenue and Wood Avenue in Port Monmouth) and the Herbert-Cuttrell Family Burial Ground (40 Old Country Road). One of the initiatives of Middletown's America 250 Committee is to recognize our Revolutionary War landmarks and Patriots. Beautifying these cemeteries where these war heroes are buried is important to the committee's mission.

On Saturday, May 10th, New Monmouth Boy Scout Troop #122, led by Chris Harris, and New Monmouth Cub Scout Pack #122, led by Clare Russo, began cleaning the Herbert-Cuttrell Family Burial Ground in the Harmony section of town.

On Tuesday, May 20th, a joint effort to clean the Eastmond Burial Ground was conducted by Middletown Community Affairs Council members John Giordano, Larry Caminiti, and Mitch Gotesky, the Middletown Landmarks Commission, and Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office with the help of Officer John Smith.

Thank you to these community members for all their hard work in clearing these overgrown cemeteries, preserving our local history, and honoring our Patriots!

NJAW Lead Service Line Replacement Program

Door-to-Door Canvassing Continues

Canvassing Map

Click on the canvassing map to view it in a larger PDF format.

CDM Smith, on behalf of New Jersey American Water (NJAW), started a door-to-door canvassing effort related to the Lead Service Line Replacement Program (LSLRP) in Middletown on Monday, February 3rd. The canvassing and internal inspections are currently taking place in the New Monmouth Elementary School District in Area 1 on the map above. There will not be any work conducted on Monday, May 26th due to Memorial Day. The entire canvassing is expected to take place over the next few months.

All CDM Smith inspectors will wear co-branded (NJAW and CDM Smith) high visibility logo vests and will have NJAW-issued Contractor ID badges. Inspectors will introduce themselves and the program to property owners and will then ask to enter the home to inspect the water service where it enters into the home (typically in a basement or crawl space).

The inspector will take exterior photos of the property and interior photographs of the service material and record the pipe material identified. Inspections generally take 15 minutes or less. At no time will residents be asked for money. Any customer that prefers to not have an internal inspection completed will be directed to alternatives to the inspections including self-reporting.

The Middletown Township Police Department is aware of the canvassing. If you have any questions about LSLRP, please email njawlead@cdmsmith.com and LeadFreeNJ@amwater.com.
