Police Youth Week is a residential youth education program developed by the Middletown Police Department. This program is designed for male and female children, between the ages of 8 and 13, to get a better understanding of what it means to be involved with law enforcement. Children do not need to have an interest in becoming a police officer to attend.
Children are able to register for only one week. They will be dropped off at Middletown High School South at 9:00am to start the program. Activities include lectures and presentations covering many facets of police work and criminal justice. Participants will be exposed to a disciplined quasi-military environment, including military drill in combination with structured fast moving programs of classroom activities, lectures, films, practical exercises and physical training, simulating the police recruit training experience. Daily programs end at 3:00pm.
The program emphasizes courtesy, professionalism, respect and teamwork. Additional presentations will include strategies for anger management, conflict resolution and cultural diversity.
The non-refundable $70 registration fee includes two t-shirts, hat, badge, water bottle, bag, video, and graduation party. Children are to dress in khaki shorts with belt, sneakers and the items issued.
