Mayor Tony Perry extends his gratitude to Police Chief R. Craig Weber and the dedicated Middletown Township Police Department.

On Friday, May 16th, the Middletown Township Police Department (MTPD) held its annual Police Memorial Service during National Police Week, marking its 97th anniversary. Although the ceremony is usually held outside at the Middletown Police Memorial (located at the corner of Kings Highway and Route 35), this year everyone gathered in the Courtroom at Town Hall due to inclement weather. Current and retired MTPD officers, loved ones of the deceased officers, and community members came to pay their respects to our fallen police and K-9 officers who served the MTPD. Mayor Tony Perry, Township Committee members, County and State officials, members of the Middletown Township Public School Board of Education and Administration, and Township staff were also in attendance. Deputy Chief Paul Bailey began the service by announcing the Presentation of Colors by the Middletown Honor Guard, followed by a Call to Order, and the Pledge of Allegiance. Police Chaplain Reverend Dr. Dan Correa led the ceremony with the Invocation. Chief of Police R. Craig Weber and Mayor Tony Perry delivered speeches at the event, and retired Deputy Chief Eugene Hannafey and retired Sergeant Richard Deickmann of the Middletown Retired Officers Association read the names of Middletown's deceased officers while photos of the monuments were displayed. The Benediction was delivered by Deacon Marty McMahon. To honor and remember our fallen, Bayshore Middle School student Sara Alexandre performed TAPS on the trumpet. The ceremony concluded with New Jersey State Police officers Daniel Murphy and Joseph Wurtz playing “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes. After the event ended, guests were invited to a complimentary lunch in the Town Hall Training Room. Click HERE to view photos from the service.

On Wednesday, Middletown held its annual "Mayor for a Day" program! Eight students from different elementary schools came to Town Hall to assume their mayoral responsibilities. The fun event began in front of Town Hall where the mayors got to meet members of our Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services departments and check out their vehicles and equipment! After, they all went to the Mayor's Conference Room where they enjoyed pizza and discussed the importance of leadership with Mayor Tony Perry, Deputy Mayor Rick Hibell, Committeewoman Kimberly Kratz, and Committeeman Ryan Clarke. Each student had the opportunity to visit the Mayor's Office and sit in his chair as they signed their "Mayor for a Day" certificate as well as a proclamation recognizing May 26, 2025 as Memorial Day in the Township of Middletown. The certificates were also signed by Mayor Perry and brought to the young mayors' respective schools. The certificates were signed by their principals today, allowing each student to serve as their school's mayor. After the certificate and proclamation signing, each student received a badge and pin from Middletown Police Chief R. Craig Weber and then visited our TV Studio at Town Hall to recite a line from the proclamation. With this activity, the mayors learned about the significance of Memorial Day while also getting to practice being on camera. To get a better understanding of their new role, the young mayors ended their evening by participating in a mini Township Committee meeting, which was led by Township Clerk Heidi R. Pieluc, and included the Pledge of Allegiance, reading a proclamation for the record, and the opportunity to pass ordinances and make public comments. While on the dais, the mayors discussed different initiatives like limiting the use of leaf blowers in the morning and reducing the amount of homework. Congratulations to our young community leaders! Click HERE to view photos from the event and click HERE to watch our young mayors proclaim May 26, 2025 as Memorial Day in Middletown Township along with Mayor Perry.

NJAW Lead Service Line Replacement Program Door-to-Door Canvassing Continues
CDM Smith, on behalf of New Jersey American Water (NJAW), started a door-to-door canvassing effort related to the Lead Service Line Replacement Program (LSLRP) in Middletown on Monday, February 3rd. The canvassing and internal inspections are currently taking place in the Harmony Elementary School District and New Monmouth Elementary School District in Area 1 on the map above. The entire canvassing is expected to take place over the next few months. All CDM Smith inspectors will wear co-branded (NJAW and CDM Smith) high visibility logo vests and will have NJAW-issued Contractor ID badges. Inspectors will introduce themselves and the program to property owners and will then ask to enter the home to inspect the water service where it enters into the home (typically in a basement or crawl space). The inspector will take exterior photos of the property and interior photographs of the service material and record the pipe material identified. Inspections generally take 15 minutes or less. At no time will residents be asked for money. Any customer that prefers to not have an internal inspection completed will be directed to alternatives to the inspections including self-reporting. The Middletown Township Police Department is aware of the canvassing. If you have any questions about LSLRP, please email njawlead@cdmsmith.com and LeadFreeNJ@amwater.com.
