The Township Committee and MTPD chiefs were honored to stand alongside Officer Nico Zampelle.
At the Township Committee Meeting on Monday, April 28th, Middletown proudly welcomed home and thanked Officer Nico Zampelle for his service to the United States Army and to our nation. While deployed for nine months in Syria, Officer Zampelle served as a captain and led a team of soldiers for the base defense of Al-Tanf Garrison where his crew engaged in multiple drone attacks. For the remainder of his time there, Officer Zampelle took command of Blackfoot Troop 1-102ND CAV. A recipient of the Combat Action Badge and Bronze Star, he is a true example of courage, patriotism, and selflessness. During the presentation, Officer Zampelle spoke about Active Duty and presented Mayor Tony Perry with a certificate and American flag that was flown at his base. Police Chief Craig Weber spoke highly of Officer Zampelle, who was hired by the Middletown Township Police Department in 2021. Middletown is honored to call Officer Zampelle a member of our community and commends him for always protecting others.

Township Committee Proclaims April as Donate Life Month in Middletown
Mayor Tony Perry presented the proclamation to Medtronic representatives Lisa Luisi (left) and Michele Napolitani (right).
At the meeting, Middletown proudly recognized April as Donate Life Month. This annual observance raises awareness about the urgent need for organ and tissue donors across the country. Currently, there are nearly 4,000 New Jersey residents and over 100,000 Americans awaiting life-saving transplant operations. One organ donor can save eight lives and one tissue donor can restore health to over 75 others. People of all ages, ethnic backgrounds, and religions are touched by donation and by the serious shortage of organ donors that exists. Lisa Luisi and Michele Napolitani, representatives from Medtronic in Eatontown, accepted the proclamation and explained how they use donations to create orthopedic implants to help people undergoing procedures like spine surgery, ACL replacements, and dental surgery. Interested in becoming an organ and tissue donor? You can register via a local Motor Vehicle Agency or online at NJSharingNetwork.org.

The Middletown Township Fire Department (MTFD) and Fire Prevention Office would like to remind our residents about the importance of having working smoke detectors in your residence.
There is no doubt about it: SMOKE DETECTORS SAVE LIVES. Please take some time over the next few days to test your smoke alarms in your homes. Smoke & carbon monoxide alarms are available at most hardware and/or department stores in the Middletown area. Remember, you want to "Hear the Beep, Where you Sleep"! Place smoke detectors in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, on every level of your home, in your living room, in basements/garages, and near stairways.
Should you have questions about your smoke detectors, including issues with installation, we urge our residents to contact the Middletown Township Fire Prevention Office at 732-615-2270.

NJAW Lead Service Line Replacement Program Door-to-Door Canvassing Continues
CDM Smith, on behalf of New Jersey American Water (NJAW), started a door-to-door canvassing effort related to the Lead Service Line Replacement Program (LSLRP) in Middletown on Monday, February 3rd. The canvassing and internal inspections are currently taking place in the Harmony Elementary School District in Area 1 on the map above. The entire canvassing is expected to take place over the next few months. All CDM Smith inspectors will wear co-branded (NJAW and CDM Smith) high visibility logo vests and will have NJAW-issued Contractor ID badges. Inspectors will introduce themselves and the program to property owners and will then ask to enter the home to inspect the water service where it enters into the home (typically in a basement or crawl space). The inspector will take exterior photos of the property and interior photographs of the service material and record the pipe material identified. Inspections generally take 15 minutes or less. At no time will residents be asked for money. Any customer that prefers to not have an internal inspection completed will be directed to alternatives to the inspections including self-reporting. The Middletown Township Police Department is aware of the canvassing. If you have any questions about LSLRP, please email njawlead@cdmsmith.com and LeadFreeNJ@amwater.com.
