As the Fourth of July approaches, the Middletown Township Police Department (MTPD) would like to warn residents of the dangers of illegal fireworks and to remind the community that fireworks laws will be enforced in Middletown. Please bear in mind the MTPD will be enforcing these laws and that violation is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and six months in jail.
Fireworks can cause serious injury and are illegal, with the exception of certain sparkling devices and novelty items. The MTPD will be prosecuting the following violations:
- Aerial consumer fireworks — including fireworks, sky rockets, bottle rockets and Roman candles, etc. — remain prohibited. Unless you have a permit to use the prohibited products here, it is against the law to drive from Pennsylvania to New Jersey with them.
- Use of fireworks that do not fall under the category of certain sparklers and other non-exploding, non-aerial fireworks. As a rule of thumb, any fireworks purchased within the State of New Jersey are legal in Middletown Township if used properly. Fireworks purchased out of state may be illegal. - Fireworks should not be set off within the hours of 10:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. according to the Township’s noise ordinance.

As a reminder, all fireworks, including sparklers, should be kept away from small children.
Stay safe and enjoy the holiday!
