For Immediate Release – January 28, 2022
Middletown, NJ – Middletown Township today announced that Mayor Tony Perry has been appointed to the Sustainable Jersey Board of Trustees. During his tenure as mayor, he has spearheaded several green initiatives such as prioritizing recycling education, preserving open space, and utilizing renewable energies.
The Sustainable Jersey Board of Trustees includes New Jersey’s most accomplished leaders in municipal governance, education and sustainability, including mayors, sustainability experts, accomplished scholars, corporate leaders, and innovators.
“I am honored to join the Sustainable Jersey Board of Trustees who are passionate about taking action on a range of issues that will help sustain our quality of life over the long term," said Mayor Perry. "While I am very proud of all our environmental accomplishments here in Middletown, there is still work to be done throughout our state, and I look forward to being a part of those conversations and solutions."
Middletown Township achieved Sustainable Jersey Silver Level status in 2019, earning a substantial number of points through the Port Monmouth Flood Control Project, the Mayor’s Wellness Campaign, and the Recycling Education Campaign. Since then, the Township has expanded on these green initiatives by becoming the first town in the state of New Jersey to purchase a Styrofoam* recycling machine, creating a recycling center at the Middletown Train Station, as well as educating residents about how to recycle properly. The town has focused on providing the community with eco-friendly ways to dispose of items that are not accepted in our single stream recycling system, such as plastic bags, plastic toys, rigid plastics, large metal items, and Styrofoam/EPS.
"We are fortunate to have such talented people join Sustainable Jersey," said Randall Solomon, executive director of Sustainable Jersey. "Each Board Trustee brings extensive experience and dedication. The Board’s leadership is an invaluable asset as Sustainable Jersey works across New Jersey to support every town and school that pursues a comprehensive sustainability program through our municipal and school certification programs."
Mayor Perry also serves on prestigious boards such as Crossroads of the American Revolution and the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce.
