For Immediate Release – April 1, 2021

MIDDLETOWN, NJ – In recognition of Earth Month, Middletown Township today announced the launch of its Mini Grant Clean Communities Program which will provide local non-profits the opportunity to receive a $500 grant to remove litter from an area in town in need of a little spring cleaning.

The program is scheduled to begin May 1st and will continue through November. These are one-time cleanup events that non-profit groups will be assigned to, such as cleaning up a local park, beach, roadway, or bus stop area.

“We encourage our non-profits to adopt a spot in town that they would like to spruce up,” said Mayor Tony Perry. “It’s easy to participate and an opportunity to give back to nature while spending some time outdoors and working together for a cause you believe in.”

Groups that participate in the cleanup will be eligible for a $500 grant offered through the NJ Clean Communities Program. “We are thrilled to be able to offer this grant to our local nonprofit groups,” said Amy Sarrinikolaou, Middletown Recycling & Clean Communities Division Head. “It gives them a chance to earn money to put towards their own programs while encouraging others to join in Middletown’s commitment to sustainability.”

The Township will provide gloves, pickers, and garbage bags to each cleanup crew. Interested groups can sign up for the program at www.middletownnj.org/EarthMonth. For more information, please contact Clean Communities Coordinator Amy Sarrinikolaou at 732-615-2040.

This program is part of many community-based initiatives Middletown Township is offering to residents during Earth Month and beyond. Some other volunteer opportunities include a toy donation cleanup event, planting at the new butterfly garden at Poricy Park, and adopting a flower bed on Township property.
