Middletown Township Department of Health and Social Services is currently investigating a cluster of approximately 13 COVID-19 cases with a common connection to the Middletown Sports Complex/Ice World facility. The investigation has revealed that the earliest onset of symptoms was on 9/3/20. Management has been working diligently with the Health Department to identify anyone who may have been in the facility since that time. Although they have a comprehensive cleaning procedure, the Township would like to advise anyone who was in the facility to get tested for COVID-19 as a safety precaution.
Per the Governor’s Executive Order No. 149, contact sports that are considered “medium risk” and “high risk” are prohibited indoors at this time. For additional information, please read the NJ Department of Health’s Guidance for Sports Activities. After discussions with the Health Director, Middletown Sports Complex Management may close the facility for up to 14 days to allow for further contact tracing, notifications, and deep cleaning in an effort to break the chain of infection.
The Health Department is conducting contact tracing in an attempt to better track and narrow down the extent of this cluster. It is imperative that everyone cooperate in this potentially serious matter as we continue to fight this virus. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Health Department at 732-615-2000, ext. 2165 or email questions to covid19@middletownnj.org .
