MIDDLETOWN, N.J. – Middletown Township today announced that its Veterans Affairs Committee will hold its 53rd KIA Street Sign Dedication honoring William J. Malcolm on Saturday, March 9th at 10:00 AM. Malcolm served as a U.S. Army solider in the Korean War and made the ultimate sacrifice for our country in the conflict. Malcolm Way, located in the Four Ponds at Lincroft development on Middletown-Lincroft Road, will be dedicated in his honor.
The veteran’s family, neighbors, residents of Four Ponds, and the general public are invited to attend. The street sign dedication will include a color guard and the playing of Taps.
“William Malcolm died in defense of our great nation and we encourage the community to join us in paying homage to his sacrifice and to all those who have lost their life in combat,” said Mayor Tony Perry. “It is our duty as Americans to keep the memory of every soldier killed in action alive for future generations.”
As part of the Township's Fallen Veterans Commemorative Street Sign Program, more than 50 KIA signs have been added Township-wide to pay tribute to Middletown veterans who were killed in action from World War I to present. The commemorative sign includes the soldier's full name, an American flag, branch of service, campaign served, and a gold star representing the gold star mother and family. The program is managed by the all-volunteer Veterans Affairs Committee with support from the Public Works Department.
