A blue line has been painted on a stretch of Kings Highway to show the township’s support and respect for Middletown’s Police Department.
“Middletown is very lucky to have so many outstanding officers serving on its police force. The blue line symbolizes our continuous support and respect for our police officers and all law enforcement,” said Mayor Gerry Scharfenberger, Ph.D.
The blue line was painted in between the double yellow lines running along Kings Highway past Town Hall where police headquarters is located. The newly painted line stretches from Route 35 to Red Hill Road.
“Our dedicated Police Department is part of what makes Middletown a great place to live,” said Mayor Scharfenberger. “We want our officers to know that we appreciate them every day.”
In the last few years Middletown has received several accolades for being a very safe community. This year Safewise, a home security and safety advise website, ranked Middletown as the safest place in New Jersey to raise a child and the fifth 2015 nationwide. The ranking is based on 2015 FBI crime statistics which show the township’s crime rate has been at its lowest level since 1969. Last year, the township was named one of the safest places to retire by badcredit.org, a financial awareness website. Middletown was also voted one of the “Best Places to Live” by Money Magazine four times – most recently in 2014.
