MIDDLETOWN, NJ — The Middletown Township Committee unanimously approved $5 million in bond ordinances at tonight's Workshop Meeting to invest in park and playground renovations ($1.5 million) and public improvements ($3.5 million) such as road, sidewalk, and drainage improvements, vehicles for the Fire Department, Animal Control, and the Department of Public Works & Engineering (DPW), as well as upgrades to the Middletown Arts Center and DPW Administrative Building.
Park Improvements
- Annual playground renovations
- Field lighting and placing stationary garbage/recycling carts at various parks
- New entrance sign and boardwalk replacement at Poricy Park
- New pickleball courts at McMahon Park
Some park improvements will be supplemented with grants from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (Poricy Park Boardwalk replacement) and the Monmouth County Open Space (pickleball courts at McMahon Park).
Public Improvements
- Design of 2023 Capital Road and Drainage Improvements Program. Roads include, but are not limited to: Port Monmouth Road, Kings Highway, East Road, Oak Hill Road, and Shady Oaks Way
- Fire engine replacement and purchasing new vehicles for Animal Control and DPW
- ADA improvements across town
- Upgrades to Middletown Arts Center
- Various improvements to DPW Administrative Building such as renovating the restrooms, breakroom, locker rooms, and common areas
“Over the last four years, the Township Committee and I have made record investments in our infrastructure, emergency services, and our recreational facilities," said Mayor Tony Perry. " Tonight, we again demonstrated our commitment to enhancing the greatness of our township while maintaining the fiscal responsibility our residents deserve."
