Ideal Beach Community Association Receives Grant for Dedication to Community
Columbia Bank Grant Awarded to IBCA

On Tuesday, September 10th the Columbia Bank Foundation awarded the Ideal Beach Community Association (IBCA), a non-profit created to preserve all that is great about living in the Ideal Beach neighborhood of North Middletown, with a $7500 grant for the positive impact they have made in the community. The Columbia Bank Foundation is designated to help support local charities and community projects, and IBCA was recognized for its neighborhood outreach and scholarship opportunities. Township Committee members Rick Hibell and Pat Snell, members of IBCA and several MTPD officers accepted the check presented by Columbia Bank. The funds have already been used to purchase special flashlights for the Station 5 East Keansburg Fire Company as well as a beautiful water fountain for Roosevelt Park that should be installed soon. Congratulations! 

Back to School Supply Drive Earns an A+!

Throughout the month of August, residents and Township employees donated school supplies as part of the Back-to-School Supply Drive run through the Middletown Social Services Department. Mayor Tony Perry stopped by Bayshore Middle School on Thursday, September 19th to help drop off some of the supplies which will go to children in need. Thank you to everyone who supported this effort! 

Township "Reaches Out" to 5th Graders to Discuss Dangers of Drug & Alcohol Addiction

On Friday, September 20th the Middletown Municipal Alliance presented its Reaching Out program to 5th graders at Harmony, Leonardo, Navesink, New Monmouth, Nut Swamp and Ocean Avenue elementary schools. The seminar, which was was held at Middletown High School South, touched on hard-hitting topics such as drug and alcohol addiction and Internet safety. Cyberbullying and prevention specialist Nicki Francis discussed the dangers of social media with the students, and recovering addict and Middletown resident Andrew Suarez shared his story with the children in an effort to help guide them to make better life choices.

Students also had the opportunity to interact with a panel of experts and community leaders and ask questions about how to deal with real-life situations that involve drug and alcohol. Panelists included Andrew Suarez, Nicki Francis, Committeewoman Pat Snell, Freeholder and Municipal Alliance member Gerry Scharfenberger and Student Assistance Counselors Tom Letson (HS South), Jacqueline Duca (HS North) and Christine Black (Bayshore MS).

Thank you to the Municipal Alliance, Health Department and Crossroads for continuing to educate our young people about addiction and where to get help!

Car Seat Safety Checkpoint

National Child Passenger Safety Week runs from September 15-21, 2019. The week is dedicated to teaching parents and caregivers about the importance of correctly choosing, installing and using car seats, booster seats and seat belts. In recognition of this week, the Middletown Township Police Department will be hosting a free Car Seat Safety Checkpoint on Saturday, September 21st at the New Monmouth Baptist Church (4 Cherry Tree Farm Road). Intermittent Closures on County Road 520 on 9/24

On or about Tuesday, 9/24 from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM there will be periodic road closures on County Road 520 (Newman Springs Road) at the Garden State Parkway overpass west of Half Mile Road. There will be one lane eastbound and one lane westbound through that area with periodic closures. Please plan alternate routes. Expect delays.


Monmouth & Navesink Avenue Road Closure Update

Gray Supply has been working in the area of Monmouth Avenue and Navesink Avenue replacing gas lines. They are anticipating the work will be completed this month. While they are working roads will be intermittently closed in the area and detours will be in place.


Route 35 Construction Project 

 
Construction work on Route 35 began Monday, May 6th northbound from Cooper’s Bridge (Red Bank) to Cherry Tree Farm Road and southbound from Cherry Tree Farm Road to New Monmouth Road.

Road work will be done with temporary lane closures from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM and from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM. All work is weather-dependent.

The project, which consists of repairs and replacement of concrete vertical curb, installation of public curb ramps, repairs to drainage structures and resurfacing of the roadway, is estimated to be completed by December 2019.
 
Please keep an eye out for possible changes to the schedule.
