Learn About Revolutionary War Patriot Thomas Burrowes in the Latest Locally Sourced Middletown America 250 Series Podcast

Patriot Profiles

In the fifth episode of our Middletown America 250 series, Patriot Profiles — a special edition of Mayor Tony Perry’s Locally Sourced podcast — we honor a Middletown patriot whose service to the American cause came not through the battlefield, but through the essential work that sustained the Revolution.

This episode tells the story of Thomas Burrowes, a lifelong Middletown resident whose labor at the Pennsylvania Salt Works and material support to the war effort helped both civilian life and the Continental forces. His story reminds us that American independence depended not only on those who fought, but on those who quietly ensured the fight could continue.

You can listen to the podcast on middletownnj.org/locallysourced, Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, iHeart Radio, Podbean, and Spotify.

Middletown DAR to Host Genealogy Workshop Series at MTPL: Register Now!

MTPL Researching Revolutionary War Patriots Genealogy Workshop

The Middletown chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will be hosting a three-part workshop series at the Middletown Township Public Library (MTPL, 55 New Monmouth Road) called “Researching Revolutionary War Patriots in Your Family Tree”. Registration is required.

Part 1 will take place on Friday, January 30th and will focus on how to add yourself to Family Search and connecting your family into the public tree. For the class, you’ll need to come prepared with the names you have on your family tree, date and place of birth, and date and place of death for each one of your parents and your four grandparents.

Part 2 of the series will take place on Friday, February 20th. Once you are connected into the public tree, you will use that tree in conjunction with the DAR’s Genealogical Research System to identify any potential Revolutionary War ancestors. This workshop will only help you identify a potential branch of the tree to explore further. Once a candidate ancestor is identified, traditional genealogy techniques will be required to prove that line. Part 2 requires attendance and completion of Part 1 or equivalent.

Part 3, which will take place on Friday, March 20th, will be offered for those who want one-on-one help with a Middletown DAR genealogist.
