On Monday, Middletown Township received a $9,600 grant from the Monmouth County Historical Commission to support roof and gutter repairs for the Middletown History Museum, which will be located in our historic train station.

The historic train station, which dates back to 1876, sits in the daily commuter lot across the street from the current Middletown Train Station and the Middletown Arts Center. After serving as an active train station for 110 years, it became home to several community organizations, most recently the Middletown Police Auxiliary.

At the Township Committee Regular Meeting on September 24, 2024, the Township entered into a formal agreement to lease the historic train station to the Middletown Township Historical Society. The organization plans to use the station as an exhibit space, set to officially open in 2026 to coincide with the building’s 150th birthday and the nation’s 250th.

Middletown Township Clerk Heidi Pieluc and Middletown Township Historical Society President Thomas Valenti were honored to formally accept the grant together at the awards ceremony.

Middletown Township Police Department (MTPD) Community Relations officers recently gave a tour of the station to a group of homeschooled students. A parent/guardian from the group kindly expressed their gratitude to Detective Ric Cruz for his thoughtful presentation and efforts to make the visit special:

"Your words carry weight and the insight and wisdom you share has impact. You are planting and watering such important seeds into the children of our community. On our way home, my boys were quizzing each other on the strategies to use when dealing with peer pressure. They remembered each one! We can’t thank you enough for the time you gave us, and for the time it took to prepare the presentation you used. It was an honor and privilege to be in that room with you yesterday.”

The MTPD is proud to offer these tours to local students, whether they are in public school, private school, or homeschooled. If you are interested in scheduling a tour, please email kdavis@middletownnj.org.

NJAW Lead Service Line Replacement Program

Door-to-Door Canvassing Continues

Canvassing Map

Click on the canvassing map to view it in a larger PDF format.

CDM Smith, on behalf of New Jersey American Water (NJAW), started a door-to-door canvassing effort related to the Lead Service Line Replacement Program (LSLRP) in Middletown on Monday, February 3rd. The canvassing and internal inspections are currently taking place in Area 1 on the map above. The entire canvassing is expected to take place over the next few months.

All CDM Smith inspectors will wear co-branded (NJAW and CDM Smith) high visibility logo vests and will have NJAW-issued Contractor ID badges. Inspectors will introduce themselves and the program to property owners and will then ask to enter the home to inspect the water service where it enters into the home (typically in a basement or crawl space).

The inspector will take exterior photos of the property and interior photographs of the service material and record the pipe material identified. Inspections generally take 15 minutes or less. At no time will residents be asked for money. Any customer that prefers to not have an internal inspection completed will be directed to alternatives to the inspections including self-reporting.

The Middletown Township Police Department is aware of the canvassing. If you have any questions about LSLRP, please email njawlead@cdmsmith.com and LeadFreeNJ@amwater.com.

Connect with the Township to Help Correct Concerns

Connect & Correct Logo

Middletown Township is now utilizing the “See-Click-Fix” platform so residents can easily contact the Township to report any concerns. The Township is branding this reporting tool as Connect & Correct since you can submit your request via the website and track its progress through completion.

Visit middletownnj.org and click on the Connect & Correct button. This link will direct you to a page of categories you can choose from to report your concern. Simply choose the relevant category from the list such as lost pet, pothole, sidewalks, playgrounds, etc. and add a brief description of the issue. You will be able to enter an address or pinpoint the location of the issue on the map. You will also have the option to attach a photo if you would like, and then you can click to submit the report.

You will then be able to track the status of the issue through updates on the platform or via email notifications.

The Township will soon be launching the Connect & Correct app which should make it even easier to report your concerns on-the-go as well as streamline communications regarding any concerns you may have.
