On Wednesday, the Middletown Veterans Affairs Committee (VAC) conducted a class about the Vietnam War to a group of homeschooled children. The students came to VFW Post 2179 in Port Monmouth to learn firsthand from our veterans. According to the class's organizer Belinda Rooney, the veterans "brought a war to life in a way us parents never could". We commend VAC members Dennis Beauregard, Bob Siemer, Richard Furlong, and Bill Bouw for taking the time to teach this important lesson to our youth.

Congratulations to the most recent 8th grade graduates of Middletown Alliance Leaders! Over the past month, both students and parents have learned about current drug trends, decision-making skills, social media safety, and how to be a peer leader. Middletown Alliance Leaders (formerly known as Project P.L.U.S.) is a peer leadership and prevention program for 5th and 8th graders led by the Middletown Alliance. Throughout the course, students learn about the personal, health, and legal consequences of dangerous substances, peer pressure, and social media. The program's end goal is to provide children with the knowledge and understanding that they have the power to make positive decisions while feeling comfortable growing into themselves. Visit middletownnj.org/middletownalliance for more information about Middletown Alliance Leaders and Middletown Alliance's prevention efforts.
