At the Township Committee Regular Meeting on Monday, July 22nd, Mayor Tony Perry presented a proclamation to the New Jersey Blind Citizens Association (NJBCA) in recognition of the 95th anniversary of its program Camp Happiness. Now in its 114th year of providing free services, the NJBCA (18 Burlington Avenue, Leonardo) serves as a statewide resource and referral center for the blind and visually impaired, as well as their families and caregivers. Camp Happiness was created as an innovative camp-like experience where blind individuals were not defined by their blindness and were able to venture out on their own in a safe environment, learn independent living skills, and participate in social activities such as swimming, boating, and fishing. Today, Camp Happiness continues in the spirit of its founders by offering free educational forums and creative programming in the arts, music, sculpting, painting, health and wellness, day trips to parks, restaurants, concerts, and other places of interest, as well as peer support groups. Visit www.njbca.org for more information about the organization.

Timber piles are currently being delivered to the Veteran's Housing site on Leonardville Road in Belford.
|
Expect Construction Activity at Veteran's Housing Site Beginning Monday, 7/29 Middletown Township would like to make the community aware that the Veterans Housing project on Leonardville Road in Belford is currently under construction. On Friday, July 26th, the general contractor began delivering the piles that are required for the building foundation and they are expected to begin driving them into the ground on Monday, July 29th. There are 156 piles, and it should take nearly two weeks. Belford residents and surrounding businesses should be aware that the contractor will have vibration monitoring devices on the perimeter of their property to ensure that there are no exceedances occurring. This work is unlikely to affect nearby properties, however you will likely hear noise from the construction taking place. Work cannot start earlier than 7:00 AM on weekdays and 8:00 AM on weekends, but weekend work is not anticipated at this time. Any concerns throughout the project can be directed to the general contractor, Woodward Construction Company, at 732-591-1125.

In July 2026, the United States will mark its 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence – and Middletown is preparing to celebrate in a monumental way! Middletown’s America 250 Committee has already started planning thoughtful ways to commemorate this historic milestone by paying tribute to our nation’s past and the part that Middletown played in it. This multi-year initiative will run from July 1, 2024 through July 4, 2026. Much like the Bicentennial Celebration of 1976, this observance will offer a plethora of ways to learn about Middletown’s history before and during the Revolutionary War and explore the significant role it had in founding America.
