Daughters of the American Revolution's Middletown Chapter Marks Grave of Middletown Patriots
Last weekend, Mayor Tony Perry and Deputy Mayor Rick Hibell were honored to join the members of the Middletown chapter of the nonprofit Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) as they marked the graves of Private John Maxson and Private Joshua Robbins. Private Maxson was a member of the Monmouth Militia and a Middletown native. He is believed to have patrolled the area around his home in Navesink, guarding the shores. Since the British occupied Sandy Hook, the shoreline of Middletown was the front line. Private Robbins was born in Monmouth County, presumably in Navesink, and was part of the New Jersey Militia, LTC James Abraham’s Regiment of Infantry, Captain Thomas White’s Company. He was assigned to posts on Sandy Hook and the surrounding high grounds of Navesink, guarding against the invasion and British confiscation of American ships approaching New York City. Both patriots are buried at the Maxson Family Burial Ground in Navesink. The DAR’s mission is to repair fallen or broken stones, clean them, and replace ones that are either missing or damaged beyond repair.

Congratulations to the First 2023 Middletown Township Police Youth Week Graduates!

Photos courtesy of the Mayor's Office and MTPD Middletown Township Police Department (MTPD) just held its first Police Youth Week Camp of the summer! There were 66 children, between the ages of 8 to 11, who participated in this program that gave them their first exposure to law enforcement at the recruit phase. The Police Youth Week program, run by Detective Ric Cruz, is a combination of classroom style learning and physical training. Participants learned firsthand about a wide variety of law enforcement training and techniques including officer safety, Internet safety, crime scene investigations, traffic enforcement, and the K-9 unit. The program also emphasized the importance of citizenship and community policing. The week concluded with a graduation ceremony at the Brookdale Community College's Student Life Center. Each graduate received a certificate and a well-earned cadet badge. Mayor Tony Perry and Deputy Police Chiefs John Kaiser and John Werner congratulated each child. Kudos to our newest Police Youth Week graduates and the dedicated officers who run this amazing program – Sgt. Carr, Sgt. Heaton, DFC. Kennedy, Cpl. Buhowksi, Cpl. Riffert, Cpl. Seymour, Ptl. Mahon, and Ptl. Zubkow, and volunteers Noah Fleming, Braden Gillick, Rylee Higgins, Natalie Pizzuto, and Thea Rowland! Special thanks to Laurie Tietjen and her staff at Freedom Reins for the fun activities on that horse farm and free ice cream sundaes!

Middletown Partners with Local Nonprofit Save Coastal Wildlife to Help Horseshoe Crabs
Middletown Township recently collaborated with local nonprofit Save Coastal Wildlife to create informative signs about horseshoe crabs at Leonardo Beach and Ideal Beach.
