Robert A. Carhart
Key to the Township recipient Robert A. Carhart proudly stands with First Assistant Fire Chief John Waltz, Committeeman and Ex-Chief Ryan Clarke, Mayor Tony Perry, Ex-Chief John Gorsegner, Jr., and Deputy Mayor and Ex-Chief Rick Hibell.

Mayor Tony Perry and the Township Committee presented volunteer firefighter Robert "Bobby" A. Carhart with a plaque and Key to the Township for his 50 years of dedicated service to the Middletown Township Fire Department Company #1 at the Township Committee Meeting on Monday, November 15th. Bobby led Company #1 as both Captain and President, and is one of the founders of the Special Services Unit. He continues to make an impact by serving on the Fire Safety Unit and Office of Emergency Management.

Bobby has become an integral person to the MTFD and the township, and we thank him for his exceptional volunteerism and for keeping our community members safe!

Township Committee Proclaims November 2021 as
Native American Heritage Month

Native American Heritage Month
Mayor Tony Perry stands with Claire Garland, director of the Sand Hill Indian Historical Association, after recognizing November 2021 as Native American Heritage Month in the Township of Middletown.
The Township Committee proclaimed November 2021 as Native American Heritage Month for the first time in the Township's history at the meeting held on Monday night. Claire Garland, director of Lincroft-based Sand Hill Indian Historical Association, accepted the proclamation.

Claire, a member of the Sand Hill Band of Lenape, is a tireless advocate for Native American history and rights. She is
also the co-chair of the New Jersey Historical Commission of Indigenous People and the New Jersey American Indian Affairs Commission Resource Person. During the meeting, Claire provided important historical information about local Native American history, including the Lenni-Lenape Native Americans who were the original settlers of Middletown. She also presented a Native American ceremonial peace pipe made by her family.

We encourage residents to join us in honoring Native American Heritage Month and thanking those responsible for laying the groundwork for our community.

Salus Grand Opening

Last week, Mayor Tony Perry was invited to celebrate the grand re-opening of Salus
(1680 NJ-35), along with the owners, staff, and supporters! Salus is a barbell club that focuses on CrossFit and nutrition. Salus originally came to Middletown in 2013 as CrossFit Salus and then rebranded as Salus in 2020. The company has moved locations several times, but has now found its home in Fountain Ridge Plaza.

We wish Salus all the best!
