Watch "Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery" at the MAC This Weekend
The Middletown Arts Center is hosting "Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery," a production by Dunbar Repertory Company. The show will take place indoors at the MAC's theatre (36 Church Street) on Friday, July 16th, Saturday, July 17th, and Sunday, July 18th. The show will begin at 8 PM on Friday and Saturday and at 4 PM on Sunday. Tickets are General Admission and $20. Seating is first come, first served.
"Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery" is the story of a young Black girl's coming of age in the South in the 1960s. Daughter is the main character, a 25-year-old narrator whose mother died when she was very young. She was raised by the women in the community, some blood-related, some not, and at the age of 12, she began her journey to womanhood guided by these very diverse, non-traditional older Black women. As she reflects, Daughter becomes a child again, reliving her vivid memories of growing up, recalling the rituals, the faith healings, the stories she was told, and the lessons she learned about survival, healing, faith, and mystery.
