Thanks to our community's support to increase the Open Space Trust Fund, Middletown is now able to make upgrades and improvements to the more than 70 parks across the township. Pictured above is the brand new playground that was recently installed at Chanceville Park (Aberdeen Terrace).
Through the Open Space Trust Fund, four parks will be receiving new playgrounds this year. Bodman Park (Market Street) has already been completed and the playground at Corporal William A. Schulz Park (Fairview Drive) was recently refurbished. Countryside Park will be the last to receive a new playground for 2021. This new playground will be positioned near the basketball court on Cherry Tree Farm Road. All playgrounds have been installed by Whirl Construction of Port Monmouth. Starting this fall, we will begin designing the new playground for McMahon Park with an anticipated completion date of Spring 2022. This playground will be similar in size to the playground constructed in 2019 at Croydon Hall (Leonardville Road).

The Middletown Arts Center is hosting "Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery," a production by Dunbar Repertory Company. The show will take place indoors at the MAC's theatre (36 Church Street) on Friday, July 9th, Saturday, July 10th, and Sunday, July 11th. It will also take place next weekend on Friday, July 16th, Saturday, July 17th, and Sunday, July 18th. The show will begin at 8 PM on Fridays and Saturdays and at 4 PM on Sundays. Tickets are General Admission and $20. Seating is first come, first served.
"Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery" is the story of a young Black girl's coming of age in the South in the 1960s. Daughter is the main character, a 25-year-old narrator whose mother died when she was very young. She was raised by the women in the community, some blood-related, some not, and at the age of 12, she began her journey to womanhood guided by these very diverse, non-traditional older Black women. As she reflects, Daughter becomes a child again, reliving her vivid memories of growing up, recalling the rituals, the faith healings, the stories she was told, and the lessons she learned about survival, healing, faith, and mystery.
