Fifth Grader Volunteers Time to Clear Snow Around Fire Hydrants to Assist MTFD

Thank you- Blake Morrison
Clear Snow Around Fire Hydrants

The Middletown Township Committee and Fire Department would like to give a huge thank you to 11-year-old Blake Morrison for clearing the snow around 11 fire hydrants in the Navesink area! We commend Blake for volunteering her time to help make a difference in our town!

If there is a fire hydrant near your house, the MTFD would appreciate your help with keeping it accessible this winter. Please help clear a path approximately 3 feet around the hydrant and shovel a path from the street to the hydrant. This will allow the MTFD to quickly locate the hydrants and obtain water for firefighting activities.

New Jersey American Water to Temporarily Change Water Treatment Process  Beginning Week of February 15th

As part of an annual maintenance program for its water distribution system, New Jersey American Water will temporarily change the water treatment process from a chloramine (a combination of ammonia and chlorine) residual to free chlorine residual at the company’s Swimming River Water Treatment Plant in Colts Neck and its Jumping Brook Water Treatment Plant in Neptune.

The temporary treatment process will begin the week of February 15, 2021 and continue until April 2021. During this period, some customers may notice a slight taste and smell of chlorine in their water. This is normal and will only be temporary until the system maintenance is complete. Customers who wish to reduce the taste of chlorine can place water in an uncovered glass container in the refrigerator overnight to dissipate chlorine faster.
