On Monday, December 14th, Mayor Tony Perry and Township Administrator Tony Mercantante were invited to Naval Weapons Station Earle to meet the new Commanding Officer of the station, Captain Ed Callahan. The Naval station has been deeply rooted in Middletown's history since its original construction in 1944 where it played an integral part in World War II, providing the majority of ammunition used by the Allies for the invasion of Normandy.
It is important that leaders from both the Naval station and our Township continue to work together to best serve the town in an emergency. The meeting touched on the continuing projects happening in Middletown, including increasing the resiliency of our coastline for protection against future weather events. We look forward to this continued partnership and are honored to have the Naval station as part of our town's past and its future.
