On Thursday, October 15th, Mayor Tony Perry and the Township Committee brought together dignitaries, Township officials, members of the Middletown Economic Development Committee, and small business owners to announce the Middletown Economic Relief Program (MERP). In the next few weeks, businesses with up to 50 employees will be able to apply for grants of up to $15,000 to help cover losses due to the pandemic. The Township has approximately $400,000 in grants obtained through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. While addressing those at the event, Mayor Perry expressed his gratitude to Congressman Chris Smith and Freeholder Director Tom Arnone for their advocacy in securing this much-needed funding at both the federal and county levels. Abe Littenberg, Chairman of the Middletown Economic Development Committee and Partner in Guttenplan's Frozen Dough, opened the press conference by announcing some of the businesses in attendance: No Limits Cafe, Pueblo Magico and Code Ninjas. We hope that you will continue to support these business and our other small businesses in town! The Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce also came out to support the program and the Township is grateful for its partnership.
Business owners can visit www.middletownnj.org/merp to be notified when the application becomes available.

NJ Poison Control Center Warns Community About Potential Misuse of Hand Sanitizers
In the COVID-19 era, alcohol-based hand sanitizers are not just a household staple, they are an everyday necessity. Since becoming part of our daily defense against coronavirus infection, these products are kept just about everywhere — from vehicles to handbags/backpacks to lunchboxes. Although hand sanitizers play an important role in preventing infection and slowing the spread of COVID-19, these products can result in potentially serious health consequences. In fact, hand sanitizers carry a potential for misuse, abuse and accidental exposure which can lead to alcohol overdose (poisoning).
