MIDDLETOWN WELCOMES STRIDE & RIDE RELAY TACTICAL TEAM TO WTC MEMORIAL GARDENS
|
|
|

On Tuesday, October 6, Mayor Tony Perry, Committeewoman Pat Snell and the Middletown Township Police Department welcomed the Stride and Ride Relay Tactical Team at the Middletown WTC Memorial Gardens located next to the Middletown Arts Center (36 Church Street).

For the third consecutive year, Middletown welcomed the Give2Those Stride & Ride Relay Tactical Team, which included a procession of vehicles and motorcycles, to our WTC Memorial Gardens so they could pay their respects to the 37 residents we lost on 9/11. The relay, which spans 911 miles from Boston, Massachusetts to Arlington, Virginia, is held at the beginning of October to honor our military servicemen and women who deployed October 7, 2001. With the beautiful backdrop of a large U.S. flag erected by some of our volunteer firefighters from Station 2 Brevent Park in Leonardo, Mayor Tony Perry and Committeewoman Pat Snell led the Stride and Ride team, Middletown first responders,Township officials, and members of the community through the Memorial Gardens. A memorial flag containing over 10,000 images of 9/11 victims as well as first responders, military members and veterans lost during any era was carried through the memorial.
Mayor Tony Perry opened up the speaking portion of the program with some words about the importance of coming together as a community during difficult times. Give2Those.org founder Heather Viveiros delivered a powerful reminder to honor those who perished on 9/11, those we have lost at war, including the men and women who have died from military PTSD and the invisible wounds of war, and to support those currently serving, our veterans, first responders and their families.
Doug Pickel, President of the “We the People Giving Back Project” then presented Mayor Perry with a custom made wooden flag plaque to honor the 37 Middletown residents who perished on 9/11. Their names will be forever etched on this plaque made with "purpleheart" lumber.
Per the mission of the organization, when we recognize the sacrifices they have made for us, we keep our promise to never forget them. To view photos from the event, please click HERE. Click HERE for more information about Give2Those and the Stride & Ride relay.

FBI Crime Report Reveals Middletown Has Lowest Crime Rate in New Jersey
Middletown, NJ has once again achieved the lowest crime rate in New Jersey for communities with a population over 50,000, according to statistics from the 2019 FBI Uniform Crime Report (UCR) released last week. The UCR calculates the crime rate based upon the number of incidents of Part I crimes reported per 1,000 residents. Part I crimes include murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson. While Middletown ranked first, townships such as Parsippany-Troy Hills, Jackson, Howell and Old Bridge were in the top five. Index crimes are down 7.5 percent over the last year and 55 percent since 2009, according to Chief of Police R. Craig Weber. “These statistics showcase the professionalism of the men and women of our world-class Police Department,” said Mayor Tony Perry. “Middletown is continually recognized as one of the safest places to live because of their dedication and community-oriented approach to policing.”
“This is the lowest crime rate in Middletown since the inception of the UCR,” said Police Chief Craig Weber. “Our agency’s proactive approach in targeting crime, along with the community’s support, has proven to be an effective strategy in safeguarding our town.” Click HERE to read the press release.

NJ Poison Control Center Warns Community About Potential Misuse of Hand Sanitizers
In the COVID-19 era, alcohol-based hand sanitizers are not just a household staple, they are an everyday necessity. Since becoming part of our daily defense against coronavirus infection, these products are kept just about everywhere — from vehicles to handbags/backpacks to lunchboxes. Although hand sanitizers play an important role in preventing infection and slowing the spread of COVID-19, these products can result in potentially serious health consequences. In fact, hand sanitizers carry a potential for misuse, abuse and accidental exposure which can lead to alcohol overdose (poisoning).
