Middletown Township held a press conference at Poricy Park on Wednesday, September 16th to help inform the community about the Open Space referendum on the November 2020 General Election Ballot and encourage residents to vote 'yes' to help preserve and protect our land. In July, the Middletown Township Committee unanimously supported a resolution to amend the dedicated Open Space Trust annual collection rate from $.02 to $.03 per $100 in equalized valuation.
If Middletown voters approve the rate of the annual levy for the Middletown Open Space Trust Fund, the Township Committee will hold a public hearing to determine the allocation of the increased proceeds to the fund and officially change the name of the fund to an all-encompassing “Municipal Open Space, Recreation, Floodplain Protection, and Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund".

Township officials, members of the Middletown Open Space Preservation Committee, Middletown Environmental Commission, Middletown for Clean Energy and Sierra Club were in attendance. Speakers included Committeewoman Patricia Snell, Mayor Tony Perry, Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom Arnone, Executive Director of Clean Ocean Action Cindy Zipf and Chief Executive Officer of NYNJ Baykeeper Greg Remaud. You can visit Middletown NJ Town Hall's Facebook page to watch the recorded event.
