Tennis Courts & Fields Now Open for Passive Recreation
The Township started to phase in the opening of tennis courts and fields today for passive recreation, provided the community practices safe social distancing and adheres to the following guidelines: - All participants must remain 6 feet apart.
- Groups are limited to 10 people or less.
- No group tennis or sporting lessons are permitted.
- The Township intends to open facilities for organized team play, practices and training to groups of 10 or less on May 15.
As a reminder, all play structures/playgrounds and basketball courts remain closed until further notice. All field permits have been cancelled and lights have been turned off. The Township will be monitoring these areas to ensure that community members are using these facilities safely or restrictions will need to be re-enforced.
We urge the community to practice safe social distancing so we can all remain healthy. For the most up-to-date Township information regarding COVID-19, please visit www.middletownnj.org/covid19.

In support of Middletown’s “Takeout Thursdays” initiative and small business recovery efforts, the Middletown Economic Development Committee (MEDC) has created a database of local restaurants to provide an easy way for community members to search for details regarding their favorite establishments.
“As leaders in the Middletown business community, it is our responsibility to help other business owners navigate the current situation and facilitate a COVID-19 economic recovery plan,” said Abe Littenberg, Chairman of the Economic Development Committee and partner in Guttenplan’s Frozen Dough. “This is the first of many actions the MEDC will take to help get businesses back on their feet again.”

Township Committee Expected to Extend Grace Period for 2nd Quarter Property Taxes Through June 1The Middletown Township Committee is expected to extend the grace period for 2nd quarter tax collection to June 1 at the upcoming Workshop Meeting on Monday, May 4. This extension is intended to alleviate some of the financial hardships incurred by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Township is still required to make on time payments to the School District and County on May 11 and May 15 respectively. Township officials have been in contact with both parties and they are confident they can work out a payment plan that works for everyone.
Please ensure that property tax payments are received by the Tax Collection Office, located at Croydon Hall (900 Leonardville Road, Leonardo), by 8:00 AM on Monday, June 1, 2020 to avoid interest charges. There are no refunds for payments already made.
As a reminder, the Tax Collection Office is currently closed to the public so tax payments cannot be made in person. Homeowners can pay property taxes to the Township in any of the following ways:
MAIL: You can mail your payment to the Township of Middletown, 1 Kings Highway, Middletown, NJ 07748. Please do not mail payments to Croydon Hall.
DROP BOX AT CROYDON HALL: For your convenience, tax payments can be placed in the drop box at Croydon Hall. This box is located by the door that faces the playground and is checked daily.
ONLINE: You can pay your taxes online through the Township website by visiting www.middletownnj.org/taxcollection or click HERE to access the Township’s payment portal. Please note there is a 3rd party fee if paying by credit card but there is no charge if paying by check. Visit www.middletownnj.org/taxcollection for updates.
