Middletown Declares State of Local Disaster Emergency Due to COVID-19At the Monday, March 16th Middletown Township Committee meeting, Mayor Tony Perry declared a State of Local Disaster Emergency within Middletown to help mitigate the evolving COVID-19 health situation.
“The health and safety of this community is our top priority,” said Mayor Perry. “It is crucial that we find ways to encourage fellow citizens to practice social distancing to help contain the spread of this disease. We are implementing these measures because it is imperative that our residents understand the gravity of the situation.”

Middletown Health Department Receives Confirmation of COVID-19 Case at Tomaso Towers
The Middletown Township Department of Health and Social Services received confirmation that a resident of Tomaso Towers has tested positive for COVID-19, the novel coronavirus. The resident is currently hospitalized. Any and all close contacts have been contacted directly by the Health Department.
There are currently three confirmed cases in Middletown. They will be continually monitored by local health officials and positive cases will be shared with the public. Information will be released as it becomes available, however this will be limited by privacy laws. Direct contact persons, organizations and place of work will be notified by health officials as they receive information from the patient.

COVID-19 Updates from the Governor's Office
On Thursday, March 19th, Governor Murphy signed Executive Order 105 regarding upcoming elections against the backdrop of the State of Emergency in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic. To summarize: - All March and April elections will be moved to Tuesday, May 12th. Petitions may still be filed in person if complete but going forward the petition process will be moved online. An online petition form will be set up online and the March 30 deadline will remain in place. The May elections will be conducted through Vote-By-Mail with VBM ballots automatically sent to all voters. More details are at Elections.NJ.Gov
- The June primary is not impacted, except for the petition process.
- The Governor also announced the closure of personal care businesses at 8:00 PM tonight, such as barbershops, hair salons, nail salons, tattoo parlors and massage parlors.

Middletown Launches “Takeout Thursdays” to Promote Small Businesses During Challenging Time

On Wednesday, March 18th, Mayor Tony Perry and the Middletown Township Committee announced the town’s new initiative “Takeout Thursdays” to help promote small businesses that are being adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Beginning Thursday, March 19th, the Township Committee is encouraging residents to support local businesses and their employees by ordering takeout food from restaurants or by purchasing gift cards for services or goods that can be used at a later date, such as meals, haircuts, car washes and more.
