Normandy Park Plan

Township Committee Approves $5.15 Million Bond Ordinance for Multi-Use Turf Fields at Normandy Park

The Middletown Township Committee unanimously approved a $5.15 million bond ordinance to install multi-use turf fields at Normandy Park and to convert a grass field at Nut Swamp School to synthetic turf. The project is expected to begin in Spring 2020.

By repurposing Normandy Park, the Township can get maximum utilization for both the school and recreational community and provide them with the amenities they need. The goal is for the Township to be able to serve a variety of sports and age groups with fields, parking improvements and lighting within the same vicinity.

Last weekend, the community kicked off the holiday season at the Township's Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at the Middletown Arts Center. Students from Thompson Middle School’s T20 Select Choir sang carols to warm up the crowd before Mayor Tony Perry and the Township Committee flipped the switch to light up our beautiful Christmas tree! Santa also made an appearance on his noisiest reindeer, the MTFD's firetruck. Children enjoyed doing arts & crafts, visiting with Santa and hot cocoa and cookies. Thank you to the hard-working elves at the Middletown Township Cultural and Arts Council and Middletown Recreation for making this event a success year after year.

The student-run ceremony culminated with a wreath laying and playing of Taps.

On Wednesday, December 11th, Thorne Middle School had the distinct honor of being one of the stops on the Wreaths Across America convoy on its route from Maine to Virginia. Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization that places wreaths on the graves of many of our service members throughout the country, including all 400,000 graves at Arlington National Cemetery. After the procession, there was a student-run ceremony that paid homage to our veterans and Gold Star/Blue Star families that emphasized the motto of "Remember, Honor, Teach" aimed towards the students and for future generations. We thank Wreaths Across America for choosing Middletown as a stop and are privileged to be a part of this beautiful tribute.
