MIDDLETOWN, NJ – The Middletown Township Police Department promoted two officers to the rank of sergeant and hired three officers this summer. Sergeants Richard Fusella and Antonio Ciccone III, and newly hired officers Tony Perito, Salvatore G. Albanese, and Douglas P. Habermann, accepted their oaths of office at the Township Committee meeting on August 21st.
BIOGRAPHIES
Sergeant Richard Fusella
Sergeant Richard Fusella has been a Middletown resident for over 30 years, and a police officer for the Township for 25 of those years. Fusella has worked for Middletown Township as a Detective in the Detective Bureau and a Corporal in Patrol. Over the years he has received three Combat Crosses from the PBA.
Fusella has three sons and one daughter. His wife, Lauri, held the Bible during his swearing in as sergeant.
Sergeant Antonio "Tony" Ciccone III
Sergeant Antonio "Tony" Ciccone III is a lifelong resident of Middletown Township and a graduate of Middletown North. He then continued his education at the University of South Carolina and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. After graduation, Ciccone worked as a civilian for NJ Transit until 2005 and was hired as a patrolman for Maplewood Township Police Department that same year. He graduated from the Essex County Police Academy. In 2006, he was hired as a Middletown Township Police Officer and later became a Field Training Officer and L.E.A.D. instructor.
Ciccone has been married for 10 years to his wife Kristin. They have two sons, Antonio and Luca, and a daughter, Tessa. Sons, Antonio and Luca, held the Bible during his swearing in ceremony.
Police Officer Tony Perito
Officer Tony Perito is a lifelong resident of Middletown. Perito, 31, served four years in the United States Air Force. He has a bachelor’s degree in National Security from New Jersey City University, and an associate’s degree in Science. Perito has one daughter named Penelope.
His father, Anthony Perito, held the Bible during the administration of oath.
Police Officer Salvatore G. Albanese
Officer Salvatore “Sal” G. Albanese is a 24-year-old native of Highlands. Albanese has an associate’s degree in Science from Brookdale Community College, and is working towards a bachelor’s degree at New Jersey City University. Albanese is a volunteer E.M.T. for Highlands First Aid and is currently employed by the U.S. Army National Guard as an infantryman.
His fiancé, Monica Caruso, held the Bible during the administration of oath.
Police Officer Douglas P. Habermann
Officer Douglas P. Habermann has lived in Monmouth County for most of his life, and currently resides in Eatontown. Habermann, 31, was in the Army Reserves from 2006 until 2012. He has an associate’s degree in Science from Brookdale Community College. Before becoming a Middletown Police Officer, Habermann was a Correction’s Officer with the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Department.
His wife, Alison Habermann, held the Bible during the administration of oath.
The new officers are attending the Monmouth County Police Academy and will graduate in December. After graduation, they will be assigned to the Patrol Division and work with a field training officer for approximately three months.
